September itinerary in Japan Day 9 (Hokkaido Day 4 Meal edition)

September itinerary in Japan Day 9 (Hokkaido Day 4 Meal edition) (Monday, October 4)   Table of contents Lunch Craft beer Dinner   Lunch As I planned in the itinerary in advance, I had “Soup Curry” at “CURRY YA! CONG” (a 6-minute walk from Toyohirabashi Station). “Soup Curry” is Hokkaido’s “Local dishes loved by the nation” announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. “CURRY YA! CONG” is one of the 100 famous restaurants in Tabelog and the number one restaurant in Japan in the “Soup Curry” category of Tabelog. https://www.maff.go.jp/j/nousin/kouryu/kyodo_ryouri/attach/pdf/190131-6.pdf “CURRY YA! CONG” is open at 11:30. I arrived at the store at 11:29, but there were already two customers in the store. I was able to enter the store without lining up, but two customers came right after me, and five customers were full. There are only 6 seats in the restaurant and they do not allow shared seats, so when I went there was only 5 customers. The manager of “CURRY YA! CONG” cooked, served, and cleaned up by himself. The only dish is “soup curry”. I asked for “Chicken, pork vegetables” as ingredients, and the spiciness was 15 (above normal spicy level). September itinerary in Japan Day 8 (Hokkaido Day 3 Meal edition) (Sunday, October 3)   Table of contents Lunch Sparkling sake Dinner   Lunch For lunch in Biei, I ate fresh tomato pizza and corn soup using corn from Biei at “Cafe & Restaurant Barch”. Both were more delicious than I had imagined, and in particular, the corn soup was an excellent soup with a delicious corn sweetness. It was a cute single-family restaurant and it was very comfortable. Biei Town sells “Biei Curry Udon” as a local gourmet to revitalize the town. “Biei Curry Udon” uses udon noodles made from Biei flour, pork and vegetables from Biei. “Biei Curry Udon” won the 2017 General Grand Prix (1st place in the taste category) of the new OMOTENASHI local gourmet. Next time, I would like to eat it when I go to Biei. http://www.bieicurry.com/   Sparkling sake I always drink craft beer on my way home, but this time I bought “Otokoyama Sparkling Sake” at Asahikawa Station when I changed trains. Otokoyama is a nationally famous Asahikawa sake brewery. “Otokoyama Sparkling Sake” is a fashionable package that can be read as both sake and bubbles. September itinerary in Japan Day 7 (Hokkaido Day 2) (Saturday, October 2)   Table of contents 1. Tomakomai 2. Botanic Garden, Hokkaido University 3. JR Tower Observatory T38   On this day, after having breakfast at Hakodate Morning Market, I moved to Tomakomai by Limited Express Hokuto No. 3 departing from JR Hakodate Station at 7:37. There were almost no passengers on the limited express Hokuto. Everyone, let’s get on the JR Hokkaido train more. I went to Shiraoi’s Upopoy (National Ainu Museum) last year, so I didn’t go this time. However, it is a very good facility for learning Ainu culture, so if you haven’t been there, please do. https://ainu-upopoy.jp/en/ https://edokagura.com/en/local-cuisine/516/   1. Tomakomai I rented a bicycle at the Tomakomai Tourist Information Center (Tourist Association) next to JR Tomakomai Station and went around Tomakomai City. The rental cycle fee is very cheap at Yen 500 a day. First, on the itinerary, after having lunch at the sea station “Plat Minato Ichiba”, I went to the Tomakomai City Science Center, which was taught at the Tomakomai Tourist Information Center. Tomakomai City Science Center was a better facility than I had imagined. Moreover, the admission fee was free. https://www.city.tomakomai.hokkaido.jp/kagaku/ Atread moreSeptember itinerary in Japan Day 7 (Hokkaido Day 2)

September itinerary in Japan Day 6 (Hokkaido Day 1 Meal edition) (Friday, October 1)   Table of contents Lunch Dinner Izakaya “Nebokke” “Nemuro Hanamaru”   Lunch “Izakaya Hakoya” I ate a large serving of seafood bowl (Yen 1,200 yen+ Yen100) at “Izakaya Hakoya”, which is a 1-minute walk from Goryokaku Tower. “Large serving of seafood” is a large serving other than rice in a seafood bowl. “Izakaya Hakoya” is a popular restaurant that is visited by many local Hakodate citizens. I went to the store at 11:15 after visiting Goryokaku, but it was almost full. The store opens at 11:00. As you can see in the photo, the seafood bowl at “Izakaya Hakoya” was a delicious seafood bowl with lots of ingredients. This is a restaurant that we would like everyone to visit when exploring Goryokaku. In addition, “Hakoya” seems to be also at Hakodate Airport. I decided to eat “Uni-Ikura-don (sea urchin salmon roe bowl)” which was planned to be eaten for lunch in the itinerary for breakfast the next day. https://edokagura.com/en/local-cuisine/503/   Dinner Izakaya “Nebokke” After enjoying the night view from Mt. Hakodate Observatory   Early in the morning, I took the Shinkansen from Morioka Station to Shin-Hakodate Hokuto Station in Hokkaido. For the first time in my life, I went from Honshu to Hokkaido by train. This time, I went to the Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan according to the itinerary. I really wanted to go to Goryokaku Tower, which had just reopened on October 1, so I made the schedule earlier. Morioka Station departed early in the morning at 06:54 and arrived at Shin-Hakodate Hokuto at 08:58. I took the JR Shinkansen Hayate No. 93. It took 2 hours and 4 minutes. https://edokagura.com/en/local-cuisine/503/ The Seikan Tunnel is the longest tunnel in Japan (for transportation) with a total length of 53.85 km. September itinerary in Japan Day 5 (Iwate Day 3 Meal edition) (Thursday, September 30)   Table of contents Breakfast Lunch Milk and soft serve ice cream at Koiwai Farm Craft beer Dinner   Breakfast I ate “Morioka Jajamen”, which is a “Local dishes loved by the nation” in Iwate prefecture, selected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for breakfast. The restaurant I ate was “Pairon Main Store”. It is said to be the origin of “Morioka Jajamen”. The “Pairon Main Store” is open from 9:00 to 21:00, so it is ideal for breakfast while traveling. It is a very convenient place near Morioka Castle Ruins Park. This is my second visit to the store. There are three sizes of “Jajamen” at “Pairon”: large (Yen 710), medium (Yen 610), and small (Yen 510). I asked for the middle size “medium”, but it’s a large size in a regular store. Please be careful. Add chili oil and vinegar to mix “Jajamen” if you like. After eating the noodles (actually, leave a little noodles), add Yen50 to make an egg soup called “Chitantan”. September itinerary in Japan Day 4 (Iwate Day 2) (Wednesday, September 29)   Table of contents Introduction 1.Takatamatsubara Memorial Park   Introduction As originally planned, I moved from Kesennuma to Rikuzentakata by bus (bus high-speed transportation system) in the morning. Since the state of emergency was lifted, Takatamatsubara Memorial Park was reopened on September 18th. https://edokagura.com/en/local-cuisine/455/ To move around Rikuzentakata, we recommend renting a bicycle at the Rikuzentakata City Tourism and Products Association (next to Rikuzentakata Station). The rental cycle fee is 200 yen for 3 hours, and the electric bicycle is 300 yen. I think it is most efficient to go to Rikuzentakata Station first, then rent a bicycle at the Rikuzentakata City Tourism and Products Association (a very beautiful building) next to it and go around Rikuzentakata. https://takanavi.org/bike 1.Takatamatsubara Memorial Park (Next to the Kiseki no Ipponmatsu station) Takatamatsubara Memorial Park is a national memorial and prayer facility for the purpose of mourning the victims of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and handing down lessons learned from the earthquake. September itinerary in Japan Day 3 (Iwate Day 1 Meal edition) (Tuesday, September 28)   Table of contents Lunch Craft beer Dinner   Lunch I was going to eat the “Hatto Zen” of the local cuisine of Iwate Prefecture in “the brewery restaurant Seki no ichi” (a 10-minute walk from JR Ichinoseki Station) in Ichinoseki, but did not go Unfortunately in the regular holiday of the restaurant. https://edokagura.com/en/local-cuisine/402/ I had lunch at “Sansaikan Fujisei” in Ichinoseki (a 2-minute walk from the west exit of JR Ichinoseki Station). Japanese people eat mochi during the New Year, but they don’t eat much except during the New Year. However, Ichinoseki has a culture of eating mochi on a daily basis, and I also had “Hitokuchi Mochi Gozen” for lunch. “Hitokuchi Mochi Gozen” contains 8 small mochi (natto mochi, walnut mochi, june mochi, anko mochi, zuda mochi, ginger mochi, sesame mochi, shrimp mochi) in addition to the mochi in the Ozoni ( Japanese traditional soup).  The taste of all mochi is different. I rented a bicycle next to Hiraizumi station and went around the sightseeing spots around Hiraizumi. It was very pleasant to ride a bicycle through the countryside. As expected, the area around the tourist spots on the rental cycle was very efficient. However, due to lack of time, I couldn’t go all around as originally planned. I couldn’t go to Hiraizumi Cultural Heritage Center, Kinkeizan this time. https://edokagura.com/en/local-cuisine/402/ After all, Takkoku no Iwaya (about 6km from Hiraizumi Station) and Genbikei Gorge (about 9km from Hiraizumi Station) are far away, so it is impossible to go to Takkoku no Iwaya and Genbikei Gorge in half a day to visit all the sightseeing spots in Hiraizumi. September itinerary in Japan Day 1,2 (Miyagi Accommodation edition)

September itinerary in Japan Day 1,2 (Miyagi Accommodation edition) (Accommodation on September 26th and 27th)   In Sendai, I stayed for two nights at a “Henn na Hotel” that just opened on September 1, 2021. It was a very interesting experience and I would like to introduce it to everyone. “Henn na Hotel” is Guinness World Records certified as the world’s first hotel where robots work. https://www.hennnahotel.com/sendai-kokubuncho/concept/ First of all, in the corridor from the entrance of the hotel to the front desk, projection mapping such as phoenix that move like flying in the corridor and Zuihoden welcomes you. Already, I feel really excited. There are no people at the front desk of the hotel, and “holograms of light” such as Date Masamune and dinosaurs welcome guests. Check-in is completed by simply typing your name on the check-in terminal. Check-in was very smooth. I sent luggage such as clothes and power cords to the hotel in advance to enjoy the “luggage-free trip”. You can pick up your luggage by calling the staff in the room behind the front desk. When you call the staff, the background turns red, and Date Masamune and the dinosaurs are in a hurry. Henn naread moreSeptember itinerary in Japan Day 1,2 (Miyagi Accommodation edition)

Matsushima Island Tour Boat 7. Fukuura Island 8. Kanrantei 9. View of Matsushima Bay from Shin-tomiyama   On the second day of Miyagi prefecture, I visited sightseeing spots around Matsushima such as Zuiganji Temple (main hall, kuri and corridor), which is a national treasure. The tourist spots were packed in a small space, and it was easy to take a walk as expected.   1. Shiogama Shrine (10 minutes walk from JR Hon-Shiogama station, there is a long staircase to the shrine, so I think you should allow some time.) Shiogama Shrine has been revered as the Tohoku guardian, Mutsunokuni Ichinomiya. It is a national important cultural property. The date of construction of Shiogama Shrine is not clear, but its origin dates back to before the Nara period. Personally, I really like Shiogama Shrine. Next time, I wanted to come back to Miyagi prefecture when I came to travel. The atmosphere in the shrine’s precincts was unique, and I felt a sacred atmosphere. Mutsu-Kokubunji Yakushido   About a month ago, I proposed a September itinerary aimed at eating seasonal fish and shellfish and local cuisine. I have actually traveled the itinerary proposed from September 26th (Sun) to October 4th (Mon), so I will report on it. First, from Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture on the first day (September 26th). In conclusion, on the first day, I was able to travel according to the itinerary proposed last time. However, it needs to be fine-tuned. https://edokagura.com/en/local-cuisine/377/ First of all, the arrival time of “Loople Sendai”, which goes around the sightseeing spots in Sendai city, may be delayed depending on the traffic conditions. Therefore, we found that we should act with a little more time than the schedule we proposed. In the proposed itinerary, I proposed to start Sendai station and return to Sendai station in about two and a half hours, but it is better to go around in about three to three and a half hours. September Itinerary Idea in Japan Day 8 (Hokkaido Day 3 Extra Edition)

September Itinerary Idea Day 8 (Hokkaido Day 3 Extra Edition)   Table of contents Introduction 1. Transfer from Sapporo to Asahikawa 2. Transfer from Asahikawa to Biei 3. Lunch   As the 8th day of the itinerary idea in September (3rd day in Hokkaido), we introduced sightseeing in Sapporo city. Autumn is also a wonderful season for Biei, so I would like to introduce Biei as an extra edition. If you’ve been to Sapporo many times, it might be a good idea to go to Biei. A day trip from Sapporo is possible, but the return trip to Haneda Airport is overwhelmingly more convenient from Asahikawa Airport than from New Chitose Airport. If you move to Asahikawa after enjoying the night view of Sapporo on the 7th day, the morning on the 8th day will be easier, so sightseeing in Biei will be easier. However, the tour of the “Biei View Bus” that we would like to recommend has been canceled from August 27th to September 30th to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection. You can rent a bicycle to visit the tourist spots. September Itinerary Idea Day 6 (Hokkaido Day 1)   Table of contents Introduction 1. Head to Hakodate 2. Lunch 3. Ofune Ruins 4. Kakinoshima Ruins 5. Dinner 6. Mt. Hakodate Observatory   Introduction On the 6th day, we will take the Shinkansen from Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture to Hakodate City, Hokkaido. There are no national treasures (buildongs) in Hokkaido. However, Hokkaido has two World Heritage Site. Shiretoko and the Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan, which was just selected on July 27, 2021. Since Shiretoko is quite far away, I did not include it in this itinerary idea, but since it is possible to visit the Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan, I included it in the route. However, visiting the Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan takes time to travel and the number of public transportation (buses) is very small, so you will not have time to visit other tourist spots. Therefore, this plan is not suitable for those who visit Hakodate for the first time. Alternatively, you should consider extending the length of your stay in Hakodate to visit other tourist attractions.   1. Head to Ichinoseki   Introduction We will visit the Chusonji Temple and Konjikido of Hiraizumi, which are both World Heritage Sites and National Treasures. I think it is more efficient to rent a bicycle around Hiraizumi Station. If we go to Takkoku no Iwaya (about 6km from Hiraizumi Station) or Genbikei (about 9km from Hiraizumi Station), there is a distance, so I think we should rent an electrically power assisted bicycle. The time required below is an approximate time for a rental cycle. After arriving at JR Hiraizumi Station, it will start around 9:00 AM. If we don’t go to Takkoku no Iwaya or Genbikei Gorge, we can go around sightseeing spots without a rental cycle by taking the patrol bus “Runrun” from Hiraizumi Station. The one-day ticket is Yen 450. However, from April 17th to November 7th, 2021, it operates only on weekends and holidays. https://hiraizumi.or.jp/en/index.html   1.read moreSeptember Itinerary Idea in Japan Day 3 (Iwate Day 1 AM)

September Itinerary Ideas in Japan (Eat all seasonal seafood and local dishes)

September Itinerary Ideas in Japan (Eat all seasonal seafood and local dishes)   Table of contents 1.Eat delicious food at a delicious time 2.The greatest stresses in life is travel planning 3.Three itinerary rules   1.Eat delicious food at a delicious time Over the next two weeks, we will propose a September itinerary idea to “eat delicious food at a delicious time.” The reason I propose an itinerary idea is that when I traveled, I had many troubled experiences because I didn’t know how to travel between the tourist spots I wanted to visit, the travel time, and the fare. Even if tourist spots are listed in travel guidebooks and the website of the Tourism Bureau, it is rare that details such as how to move between spots are written. In particular, it is extremely rare to post information on how to move across prefectures. For this reason, I wanted to eat up all the seasonal fish and shellfish and suggest how to travel. Until now, we have proposed “when”, “where”, “what”, and what to eat, using the “season of fish and shellfish” as a starting point, but in the future, we will add “how” to the itinerary (Travel route)read moreSeptember Itinerary Ideas in Japan (Eat all seasonal seafood and local dishes)
