In Hokkaido, the following 11 types of fish and shellfish are in season in July.

4.”PRIDE FISH”
Akkeshi oysters have been selected as the summer “PRIDE FISH” in Hokkaido by Japan Fisheries Cooperatives. The delicious season is May-August. I also ate oysters in Akkeshi during the season, but they were juicy and very delicious.
In addition, Hokkaido has the highest catch of northern shrimp in Japan, but the sea of Japan’s northern shrimp is also selected as a “pride fish”. The delicious season is May-July.
The Sakhalin surf clam was not included in this survey, but Tomakomai’s Sakhalin surf clam was also selected as a “pride fish”. The season is July-November. Tomakomai is the largest amount of Sakhalin surf clams landed in Japan. For me personally, Sakhalin surf clam is my favorite shellfish, which ranks quite high as a sushi ingredient.
