Hokkaido (12 types of seafood) ranked first in the prefectures with the highest catches and types of seafood that will be in season in December. Hokkaido has been in the top 3 for 6 consecutive months.

In Hokkaido, the following 12 types of fish and shellfish will be in season in December.

“PRIDE FISH” in winter in Hokkaido selected by Japan Fisheries Cooperatives, “Sea of Japan / Funka Bay Scallops” (season: December-March) and “Hakodate Gokko (smooth lumpsucker)” (season: December-April) Month) is selected.

About 80% of Japanese scallops are caught in Hokkaido. The fishing method for scallops in the Sea of Japan and Funka Bay is the hanging method, and the fishing method for scallops in the Sea of Okhotsk is the sowing method. It seems that the fishing method differs depending on the area.

The season of scallops in the Sea of Okhotsk is from early summer to autumn, which is different from that of the Sea of Japan and Funka Bay. I love scallop sashimi because it’s very sweet.

On the other hand, winter “Gokko soup” is the best. The body is full of collagen, and the texture is the best. The “Gokko soup” I ate in Hakodate was an unforgettable taste.
