Japan Fisheries Cooperatives has selected “Pacific Coastal Matsukawa-garei : Matsukawa-flatfish” as the “PRIDE FISH” for autumn in Hokkaido. It is also branded under the name “Oucho (King flatfish)”. It is landed from Erimo Town in Hokkaido to Hakodate City, and the season is from September to November. I definitely want to try it once.
By the way, Hokkaido boasts the highest catch of flatfish in Japan (2019). In addition, the following pictures are pictures of “flatfish”, not “Matsukawa-garei”.
“Sakhalin surf clam of Tomakomai : Tomakomai no Hokki” (seasonal July-November) introduced in “Seafood that will be in season in July in Hokkaido” is also in season in September.
