Table of contents
Introduction
Nagasaki Prefecture (8 types of seafood) ranked first in the prefectures with the highest types and catches of seafood, which are in season in October. Nagasaki Prefecture is number one for four consecutive months.
There are two main reasons why Nagasaki Prefecture is blessed with abundant fish and shellfish. The length of the coastline is the second largest in Japan’s prefectures, and it faces the two seas of the “Sea of Japan” and the “East China Sea.” The Tsushima Current, which branches off from the Kuroshio Current, which is one of the largest currents in the world, flows through the Sea of Japan. The East China Sea has one of the world’s leading continental shelves and is rich in plankton, which feeds fish.
In Nagasaki Prefecture, the following seven types of fish and shellfish will be in season in October.
Fish
tilefish, conger eel, yellowtail, butterfish, sardine, mackerel, hairtail
Other seafood
Japanese flying squid
Among the fish and shellfish that will be in season in October, the fish with the highest catch in Nagasaki Prefecture are conger eels and butterfish. The second largest catches are yellowtail, sardines, mackerel and hairtail.
