October Itinerary in Japan Day 2 (Ishikawa Day 2 Meal edition)
(Thursday, October 21)
Table of contents
2. Craft beer “Oriental Brewing”
5. Dinner “Oden Izakaya Miyuki”
1. Lunch “Miyoshian”
Lunch on October 21st was at “Miyoshian” in Kenrokuen. I had a tea kaiseki-style bento (Yen 3,300). Lunch while looking at the garden at Kenrokuen, a national special place of scenic beauty, was a luxurious experience. Also, I was very satisfied with the meal that included plenty of seasonal ingredients from Ishikawa prefecture.
The contents of the meal are konbu maki of spanish mackerel and northern shrimp sashimi (sashimi), which is a seasonal fish, Jibu-ni, which is a local dish of Ishikawa prefecture, and Koubako crab (however, it was from Niigata. fishing in Ishikawa prefecture start on November 6th), grilled Japanese amberjack, tempura of Kaga vegetables, etc.
In Ishikawa Prefecture, male snow crabs are called Kano crabs and females are called Koubako crabs. Kano crab is a brand crab that is landed at the fishing port of Noto from Kaga. Koubako crab is generally called Seiko crab. Koubako crab is smaller than the Kano crab, but it is a very delicious crab, because it has crab innards, uchiko (immature egg) and sotoko (egg). I prefer females to males in snow crabs.
Spanish mackerel, northern shrimp, Japanese amberjack, and Kano crab (snow crab) are “PRIDE FISH” in Ishikawa prefecture selected by Japan Fisheries Cooperatives.
Jibu-ni is a local dish of Ishikawa prefecture. It has been selected as one of the “100 Best Local Cuisine” by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
2. Craft beer “Oriental Brewing”
After sightseeing in Kanazawa, I drank craft beer at “Oriental Brewing” in the station building “Anto West 2nd floor” of Kanazawa station. The beers I drank were “Citra”, “YUWAZU Yuzu ale”, “First IPA”, and “Kaga Tea Stout”. “Kaga Tea Stout” was a fragrant dark beer using Kaga tea and was very delicious.
3. Dinner “Yumeri”
After drinking craft beer, I had dinner at “Yumeri“, which is about a 5-minute walk from Kanazawa Station. “Yumeri” is a restaurant that mainly serves local fish and sake from Oku Noto, the origin of the owner of the restaurant. It is a very popular restaurant. Many customers were refused entry because it was full.
Anyway, all the dishes were delicious. In particular, the assorted sashimi, grilled blackthroat seaperch, sashimi of Japanese babylon, and steamed lotus root of Kaga were the most delicious.
Nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) is “PRIDE FISH” in Ishikawa prefecture. The seasonal blackthroat seaperch (September to December) was fatty and exquisite. After all, Nodoguro is the king of white fish. I think it’s one of my top 3 favorite fishes.
Japanese babylon is a popular ingredient in Ishikawa prefecture, and I ate it at many stores. The season of Japanese babylon is from September to June, and winter seems to be especially delicious. The Japanese babylon sashimi is delicious even if you eat it with soy sauce, but when you eat it with salt and sudachi, it was the best because of the crunchy texture and the nice aroma of the tide and sudachi.
Steamed lotus root of Kaga is a local dish of Kaga. There were also eels and mushrooms inside. The steamed lotus root of Kaga had a gentle taste and a good texture, and it was a very satisfying dish.
The next time I visit Kanazawa, I would like to revisit “Yumeri”. There are many formal high-end restaurants and high-end sushi restaurants in Kanazawa, but cozy and affordable restaurants like Yumeri are valuable. This is a restaurant that I can recommend to many people.
4. Dinner “Menya Taiga”
After “Yumeri”, I had red miso ramen (Yen 880) at “Menya Taiga“. “Menya Taiga” is a ramen shop that was impressed by eating miso ramen when I went on a trip to Kanazawa before. This time, I tried red miso ramen with chili and garlic pepper.
At Menya Taiga, vegetable juice is served in a small glass before eating ramen. It seems that drinking vegetable juice first has the effect of suppressing the rise in blood glucose level. I don’t think there are many ramen shops that have this kind of concern.
The red miso ramen I ate this time was mildly spicy for me, even though it was written as “Caution for spicy food”. The taste was similar to miso ramen, and it was a very delicious ramen with a rich miso taste. On my next visit, I would like to try black miso ramen using squid ink.
5. Dinner “Oden Izakaya Miyuki”
After going to “Yumeri” and “Menya Taiga”, I also went to “Oden Izakaya Miyuki” near the hotel. I had a strong appetite, probably because I was tired from walking around all day. I also came to “Oden Izakaya Miyuki” when I visited Kanazawa last time. Although the name of the restaurant has “oden”, it is a popular restaurant where all dishes are very delicious. Moreover, I like the atmosphere of the store and the coziness.
This time, I ate 3 kinds of oden, Japanese babylon nuta, and cod milt tempura. Many customers asked for Japanese babylon oden. After all, it seems to be a popular shellfish in Kanazawa. On this day, I ate Japanese babylon sashimi, oden, and nuta in three ways. It was very delicious no matter how I ate it.
