So, before you give up, please read about my experiences! I am sure you will have passion and hope to travel abroad!
~My first trip abroad was to Hawaii~
My first trip abroad was to Hawaii as a graduation gift from high school.
I chose Hawaii for two reasons. I wanted to test my English language skills because I was going to study English literature at the time, and I thought it would be an easy place to live in a wheelchair. The local people and bus drivers were very kind to me, and it was a wonderful trip.
~Any difficulties would be moving my luggage~
Overall, the trip was very enjoyable, but the hardest part was moving our luggage. When traveling abroad, you need at least a week’s worth of luggage.
In addition, for wheelchair users, the wheelchair itself, and for electric wheelchair users, batteries and a battery charger for the batteries are an added extra.
The batteries for each electric wheelchair weighed 1 to 2 kg, and the battery charger weighed 4 to 5 kg, making it very difficult to carry them because they were so large. Of course, during the trip, people around me often helped me, but I often had to carry the heavy batteries and charger by myself.
However, I was afraid when I carried it alone because there was a risk of it breaking down if I dropped it while trying to carry it.
For wheelchair users, each movement took time, so it was also difficult to get the goods in and out of the wheelchair.
However, it is difficult to hire a helper only for luggage, because it is difficult to find a helper for a long period, and above all, the helper’s fee is expensive, so it is difficult to hire a helper.
